Philosophy and criteria

Introduction

Vayu residency is a non-profit art & mind organization committed to supporting artists, curators, researchers, writers, yogi and mind trainer on an international level as well as engaging the local community in Kashan and the Greater Isfahan and Tehran area with residency, exchange and year-round public programs.

Vayu is a residency space in a historical building in Kashan. We chose a Qajar dynasty House in Kashan because of architecture originality, with a special accommodation and inspiring space for residents. However Vayu residency as a multidisciplinary space, focuses on contemporary art, research and dialogue rather than on traditional production formats. The program aims at the inter-cultural exchange of individual experiences, professional development, international cooperation, and to professionally support contemporary artists and yogist in establishing and developing their work.

Residency program, Criteria & Facilities

The Vayu Residency Program offers two kind of Art & Mind residency for Established, mid-career and emerging artists and yogi. One month residency for Established & mid-career artists and mind instructors provide space for dynamic cross-cultural dialogues to develop their professional practice and ideas and providing dedicated time and space to work & create. Vayu provide three studio space (for sculpture & ceramic|painting & printing|dance & music), luxury accommodation, open studio, presentation, final exhibition and other important resources with residency. Each resident will be asked to present their work and one day workshop with local artists during the residency and may donate a piece of artwork to the Vayu Residency. Kashan have an incredible landscape beautiful and different desert, mountain and special village around of city with possibility for working there and we can create opportunity for residents to work in nature.   

Second type of our residency provide space for emerging artists and yogi to stay, work & create in Vayu residency. Residents be able to use studio space, accommodation and other things they need for one, two or three weeks. Also they need to charge for accommodation. Residents from any discipline will be able to come, create and share their work.

All of residents in both type of residency will be select by a committee of promoters of that specific program, based on program requirements and specifications.

Except for Vayu residence program and Vayu Award which is offered annually to four outstanding artists and yogi of different disciplines to reside one month in Vayu, we have exchange programs. Each of the exchange programs has its own specific requirements and selection of the artists, yogi, mind instructors, curators, researchers, writers, musician and filmmakers is made basically by a committee.
